Washington/Tehran: U.S. President Donald Trump has announced plans to reimpose pressure on Iran, including renewed maritime restrictions, as tensions between Washington and Tehran continue to escalate.

In remarks shared on his social media platform, Trump said the United States intends to ensure freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, while proposing a transit fee for commercial shipping using the strategic waterway. He also stated that Iran would not be allowed to rebuild its military capabilities.

Trump further made strong claims regarding Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, suggesting there was a high probability he had been killed. However, no official confirmation or independent verification of this claim has been provided by Iranian authorities or other reliable sources.

Reacting to Trump’s remarks, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Iran would not allow the Strait of Hormuz to become a security threat to the country. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) also warned against any foreign interference in the strategic waterway, stating that Tehran would respond to any unauthorized military presence.
