India's insurance regulator has proposed raising the foreign investment cap for insurance intermediaries, according to a consultation paper released this week, in a move intended to attract fresh capital into the sector.
The proposal, which requires board approval before implementation, would bring the intermediary cap closer to the limit already permitted for insurance companies themselves.
Industry bodies broadly welcomed the move, though some domestic players raised concerns about consolidation pressure on smaller brokerages.
