The government unveiled a new production-linked incentive scheme for advanced battery cell manufacturing, targeting 50 gigawatt-hours of domestic capacity over five years, the commerce ministry said Thursday.
Incentive payouts will be tied to local value addition thresholds that increase over the scheme's tenure, intended to build a domestic supply chain rather than simple assembly operations.
Industry executives welcomed the scheme but flagged that domestic lithium and cobalt processing capacity remains a bottleneck that incentives alone may not resolve.
