The Union Home Ministry has sanctioned 40 additional companies of central armed police forces for deployment across Assam, Manipur and Nagaland, according to an order issued this week.
Officials said the deployment would support state police during infrastructure projects in border districts and ahead of local body elections scheduled later this year.
State governments had requested additional forces citing stretched policing capacity, particularly in districts bordering Myanmar where security agencies have flagged increased cross-border movement.
