Riyadh: Saudi Arabia has strongly condemned what it described as an alleged Iranian attack targeting the Saudi oil tanker Wadyan and the Qatari tanker Al-Ruqayyat while they were transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

In an official statement, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the alleged attacks “unacceptable” and described them as a direct threat to international maritime security, freedom of navigation, and the uninterrupted flow of global energy supplies.

The Kingdom stated that the continued targeting of commercial vessels constitutes a serious violation of international law, established maritime norms, and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817, which it said guarantees the safe passage of ships through international waterways.

Saudi Arabia urged Iran to immediately cease any actions that could endanger regional peace, maritime security, and global energy transportation.

The Kingdom also held Iran fully responsible for the alleged attacks and for any resulting damage or consequences.

The developments come amid heightened tensions in the Gulf region, where the security of commercial shipping and global energy infrastructure remains under close international scrutiny. Iran’s response to the Saudi allegations was not included in the statement.
