Tehran: Iranian Parliament Speaker and chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said on Thursday that the Strait of Hormuz will reopen only under what he described as “Iranian arrangements,” following the recent escalation between Iran and the United States.

In a statement posted on X, Ghalibaf said the United States had “not yet learned that threats and broken promises will no longer go unanswered.”

He further warned that “if you attack us, you will be attacked in return,” underscoring Tehran’s increasingly firm stance amid rising regional tensions.

His remarks came after U.S. President Donald Trump announced new military strikes against Iran and warned Tehran of severe consequences if it continued targeting ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Iranian state media, explosions were reported across several locations along Iran’s southern coast after the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) launched a second consecutive night of military operations against Iranian targets.

The Strait of Hormuz has become a major point of dispute between Tehran and Washington. During the conflict, Iran suspended maritime traffic through the vital waterway, disrupting one of the world’s most important energy shipping routes.

Following a recently signed memorandum of understanding aimed at reducing hostilities, shipping activity has gradually resumed, although tensions over the future management of the Strait continue to remain high.

The statements reflect Iran’s official position. The U.S. has not immediately responded to Ghalibaf’s latest remarks.
