Bihar is likely to witness rain, thunderstorms and strong winds on Friday, with the Meteorological Centre in Patna issuing a yellow alert for 18 districts as the southwest monsoon nears complete withdrawal.
According to the weather department, parts of north-western, north-central and south-western Bihar may experience thunderstorms and lightning, while several districts in North Bihar, particularly the Seemanchal region, are likely to receive rainfall.
The department said atmospheric moisture and local weather conditions could lead to variations in rainfall and humidity across the state.
A yellow alert has been issued for 18 districts, warning of thunderstorms accompanied by winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph.
The districts under the alert include Gopalganj, Siwan, Bhojpur, Buxar, Arwal, Aurangabad, Saran, Vaishali, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Kaimur, East Champaran, West Champaran, Rohtas and Muzaffarpur.
Rainfall is also likely in northern and eastern districts, including Purnea, Katihar, Araria, Supaul, Madhepura, Saharsa and Kishanganj.
Meanwhile, Patna and its adjoining areas are expected to remain largely dry on Friday, although isolated light showers cannot be ruled out due to local cloud formation.
Weather activity is likely to be more pronounced in North Bihar and districts bordering neighbouring states and Nepal.
According to the forecast, rainfall and thunderstorm activity are expected to weaken from Saturday, with isolated showers possible in parts of the Kosi, Seemanchal and eastern Bihar regions.
Conditions are likely to improve across most parts of the state by Sunday, although isolated light rainfall may continue, particularly in Kishanganj.
The weather department has forecast no significant changes in maximum or minimum temperatures across most districts over the next five days.
In view of the possibility of lightning and strong winds, residents have been advised to remain vigilant and follow official weather advisories.
People have been urged to seek shelter inside sturdy buildings during thunderstorms and avoid open fields, isolated tall trees, electric poles and transformers.
Authorities have also advised residents to avoid unnecessary outdoor movement during severe weather and stay away from exposed areas until conditions improve.
