The Saudi-led military coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognised government has announced the destruction of a launch platform used by Yemen’s Houthi movement to fire a ballistic missile towards Riyadh.

Coalition spokesperson Major General Turki Al-Maliki said the launcher had been destroyed as part of efforts to counter missile threats targeting Saudi territory.

The announcement followed an earlier statement by the coalition that a ballistic missile launched by the Houthis towards the Saudi capital had been intercepted and destroyed in the air.

Al-Maliki said coalition forces possessed the capability to respond to missile threats against the Kingdom and protect Saudi territory.

The latest development highlights continuing regional security concerns linked to the conflict in Yemen and the threat posed by missile attacks targeting Saudi Arabia.

The coalition did not provide further details in the statement about the location of the destroyed launcher or the circumstances of the operation.
