Emergency warning sirens were activated across several Saudi cities and governorates on Saturday as authorities issued precautionary alerts over potential security threats. The Saudi Civil Defense later announced that the danger had passed and the alerts had been lifted.

The early-warning alerts covered Riyadh, Al-Kharj, Khamis Mushait, Jeddah, Taif, Yanbu, AlUla, Jazan, Farasan and Abha, according to Saudi Civil Defense.

The alerts came amid a wider escalation involving attacks launched from Yemen toward Saudi territory.

Ballistic Missile Intercepted Over Riyadh

Saudi Arabia's official news agency, SPA, reported that Saudi air-defense forces intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched toward Riyadh early Saturday morning.

The Saudi-led coalition spokesman, Maj. Gen. Turki Al-Malki, said the missile was launched by the Houthis toward the Saudi capital. He also said attempted attacks targeting civilian areas in Bish, Taif, Farasan and Yanbu had been thwarted by Saudi air defenses.

The latest developments follow a series of attacks and attempted attacks targeting Saudi territory in recent days.

Previous Attack Caused Casualties in Taif

Saudi authorities had earlier reported that falling debris following the interception of a drone in Taif Governorate resulted in one death, two injuries and material damage to buildings and vehicles on September 17.

The Arab League subsequently condemned the attack on Taif and expressed condolences to the victim's family, while calling for an end to attacks on Saudi territory.

Growing Regional Security Concerns

The latest incidents come as regional tensions remain elevated, with attacks involving missiles and drones raising concerns about civilian safety, critical infrastructure and regional stability.

The United Nations Security Council has also expressed concern over Houthi military escalation, attacks affecting Saudi Arabia and threats to commercial shipping in the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

Saudi authorities have repeatedly said their air-defense systems are working to intercept incoming threats before they reach populated areas and critical facilities.

For residents in the affected areas, the lifting of the early-warning alerts indicated that the immediate danger had passed, although authorities continue to monitor the security situation.
