NEW DELHI, October 22 (Aalimi Nation) – Prime Minister Narendra Modi is holding talks with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in New Delhi on Thursday, with several agreements expected to be signed once the discussions conclude. The India-Poland talks are the centrepiece of a visit that runs through October 23.

Tusk arrived in the capital at Modi's invitation. Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti Raj Bhushan Chaudhary received him at the airport. The Ministry of External Affairs has not yet named the agreements to be signed.

What the India-Poland talks cover

The two leaders will review the full range of bilateral relations and exchange views on regional and global issues of shared interest, the government said. Areas of cooperation include trade and investment, defence, emerging technologies, renewable energy, education, culture and people-to-people ties.

Tusk is accompanied by Poland's Finance and Economy Minister, Andrzej Domanski, and a large business delegation. An India-Poland Business Forum is scheduled in New Delhi on Thursday. On Friday, Tusk travels to Bengaluru to meet business representatives, including those from the information technology and space sectors.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal welcomed the visiting leader on X. "The visit will provide fresh impetus to the India-Poland Strategic Partnership and further deepen our longstanding ties," he said. The ministry also said the visit is intended to strengthen the wider India-European Union strategic partnership.

Background to the visit

This is Tusk's second visit to India as Poland's prime minister; the first was in 2010, during an earlier term. In 2017 he was also in New Delhi for the India-EU summit in his capacity as President of the European Council.

Bilateral relations were raised to a Strategic Partnership during Modi's visit to Poland in August 2024. The two countries also marked 70 years of diplomatic relations that year. A five-year Joint Action Plan covering 2024 to 2028 guides cooperation under that partnership.

Official figures show two-way trade was worth more than $6 billion in 2025. Poland is India's largest trade and investment partner among the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. Indian investments in Poland are valued at over $3 billion, and about 3,500 Indian students are pursuing higher education there. Poland is also home to an Indian community of more than 30,000 people.

A former Polish ambassador to India, Adam Burakowski, has said the two sides hope to lift bilateral trade towards $10 billion and expect a number of memorandums of understanding to be signed between companies from both countries. That target has not been confirmed by either government.

What happens next

The outcome of the talks, including any joint statement and the list of agreements, is expected to be released after the meeting. Tusk's Bengaluru programme on Friday is expected to focus on technology and space collaboration.

The visit also follows meetings in Warsaw on September 4, when External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar reviewed the Joint Action Plan with Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski and met President Karol Nawrocki. Discussions then covered the Strategic Partnership, the conflict in Ukraine, developments in West Asia and the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor.
