The Saudi Foreign Ministry described the reported attack as an attempt to provoke Muslims around the world. According to the report, Saudi authorities said it was the second reported attempt to target Makkah, following an earlier incident in July 2017.
The incident has also prompted religious condemnation. Sheikh Qais bin Muhammad Al Sheikh Mubarak, a former member of Saudi Arabia's Council of Senior Scholars, condemned any attempt to endanger worshippers travelling to the holy cities.

Saudi analyst Monira Al-Qahtani described Makkah as the land of revelation and the direction of prayer for Muslims, arguing that an attempt to target the city could undermine the Houthi movement's claims of defending Muslim interests.
Yemeni political researcher Adel Shamsan went further, arguing that the reported attack should be viewed within the context of wider regional power struggles and the use of armed groups to pursue political and security objectives. His comments were presented as his analysis of the incident.

The reported interception highlights Saudi Arabia's continuing efforts to protect its territory from missile and drone threats.
Saudi officials have repeatedly stated that the protection of the Two Holy Mosques and the safety of pilgrims are non-negotiable priorities. Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan has warned that continued Houthi actions could carry consequences for the movement.
