Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed it launched a major retaliatory operation against US military targets in Jordan and the United Arab Emirates following an American strike on Iran’s Larak Island.
According to Iranian media reports, the IRGC fired ballistic missiles at two military facilities in Jordan, identifying the King Hussein and Al-Azraq air bases as targets. Tehran said the attacks were carried out in response to what it described as US aggression against Iranian territory.
The escalation follows a US military operation on Larak Island, where US Central Command reportedly targeted Iranian rocket launchers. American officials said the action was taken amid concerns that Iranian forces were preparing to deploy mines and rockets in or near the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
In a further expansion of the confrontation, Iranian sources also claimed that US military installations in the United Arab Emirates had been targeted. Reports indicated that drones were used in an alleged attack on military facilities associated with US forces at Al Minhad Air Base.
Iran has strongly condemned the US operation, describing it as an act of aggression and warning that it would respond forcefully.
Jordanian military authorities said their air defence systems intercepted several missiles that entered the country’s airspace. However, reports regarding damage and possible casualties remain conflicting, with no independent confirmation immediately available.
The latest developments mark a potentially dangerous new phase in the rapidly escalating confrontation between the United States and Iran. With the Strait of Hormuz and the wider Gulf region already under heightened security pressure, fears are growing that further military escalation could draw more countries and regional actors into the conflict.
