AMMAN, September 5, 2026 — Jordanian air-defence systems intercepted and destroyed 10 of 13 ballistic missiles launched from Iran, while three missiles fell in remote areas, the Jordanian Armed Forces said.
No deaths or injuries were reported in Jordan following the attack.
The missile barrage came amid a broader escalation between Iran and the United States, with Iranian missiles and drones targeting US-linked military positions in several countries following fresh US strikes on Iranian military targets.
Why Did Iran Attack Jordan?
Iran has described the attacks as retaliation for US military strikes against Iran.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it targeted US military facilities in Jordan. The country hosts US military personnel and installations and has become an important part of Washington's regional military infrastructure.
That presence has also left Jordan exposed to potential Iranian retaliation as tensions between Tehran and Washington intensify.
Iranian officials have separately accused the United States of causing civilian casualties in its strikes inside Iran. Iranian authorities said a US strike hit a house during a wedding in southern Iran. Reports about the number of people killed have varied and have not been independently verified.
What Happened in Jordan?
The Jordanian military said all 13 missiles that entered its airspace were dealt with by its air-defence systems.
According to the military:

3 missiles fell in remote areas
No deaths or injuries were reported
Jordanian authorities urged residents not to approach missile debris or unidentified objects that may have fallen after the interceptions.
Warning sirens and alerts were also reported in parts of Jordan as the missiles approached.
Death Toll in the Wider Conflict
The overall death toll remains difficult to establish as fighting continues and casualty figures released by different sides vary.
Reports available so far indicate that at least 18 people have been killed inside Iran in the latest round of US strikes, according to a review of reported casualties by Al Jazeera. Other reports have cited different figures for individual attacks.
The United States has also suffered military casualties. Reporting citing the Pentagon says 18 American service members have been killed in the wider Iran conflict since February 28.
No deaths or injuries were reported in Jordan from the latest missile attack. US officials also said no American casualties had been reported from attacks on US facilities in Jordan at that stage.
