The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has strongly condemned recent attacks by the Houthi militia targeting airports and civilian infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, describing the strikes as a dangerous escalation that threatens the security and stability of the Kingdom and the wider region.
In a statement issued by its General Secretariat on Thursday, the OIC said the attacks against civilians and vital infrastructure represented a serious threat to regional security.
The organisation expressed condolences to the families of those killed in the attacks and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
The OIC also reaffirmed its “full and unwavering solidarity” with Saudi Arabia and said it supports the Kingdom’s efforts to protect its security, sovereignty, citizens and residents.
The statement came as Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia have intensified in recent weeks, with civilian facilities among the reported targets.
Saudi-led coalition launches retaliatory strikes
In response to the attacks, the Saudi-led coalition has carried out military strikes against Houthi positions in Yemen.
Coalition spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki Al-Malki said on Thursday that 82 Houthi military targets had been destroyed across Yemen following recent attacks on civilian facilities in Saudi Arabia. The figure was reported by Saudi authorities and has not been independently verified.
The coalition also said it intercepted two ballistic missiles targeting Riyadh and another missile fired towards Khamis Mushait.
Missile debris damages facilities in Riyadh
Saudi Civil Defence said debris from a Houthi ballistic missile intercepted over the capital fell in Riyadh, damaging a kindergarten and a medical clinic complex.
According to the Civil Defence authorities, the missile had been launched from Yemen by the Houthi militia. Officials said established emergency procedures were followed.
Authorities did not immediately report whether the falling debris caused any casualties.
The latest developments add to growing regional tensions as Saudi Arabia and the Houthi movement remain locked in a prolonged conflict, with attacks involving missiles and drones continuing to raise concerns over the safety of civilians and critical infrastructure.
