Saudi Arabia’s-led coalition fighting in Yemen says it has destroyed 82 military targets belonging to the Houthi movement following recent attacks on civilian infrastructure in the Kingdom, including King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and Abha International Airport.

Coalition spokesperson Maj. Gen. Turki Al-Maliki said attacks targeting civilians and civilian facilities in Saudi Arabia “will not go unpunished”. He said the coalition’s Joint Forces subsequently launched what he described as a comprehensive military operation against Houthi positions in Yemen.

According to Al-Maliki, the strikes targeted positions across the Yemeni governorates of Saada, Al-Hudaydah, Al-Jawf and Marib.

The coalition said the targets included 11 mountain-based ballistic missile storage facilities in Saada, as well as command-and-control centres, communications systems, missile and weapons storage facilities and sites used by Houthi forces.

The operation followed attacks on the two Saudi airports. Saudi authorities said the strikes killed three people and injured 36 others.

The latest exchange represents a further escalation in the conflict, with attacks on Saudi territory followed by retaliatory coalition strikes against Houthi military infrastructure inside Yemen.

The figures and details of the coalition operation are based on statements from the Saudi-led coalition; independent verification of the reported number of targets destroyed was not immediately available.
