WASHINGTON, September 5: US President Donald Trump has said that the war with Iran is not a major problem for the United States, while stressing that Washington will not allow Iran to obtain nuclear weapons.
Trump said the United States is carrying out attacks on targets in Iran, but described the situation as not being a full-scale war at present. He also said US forces had destroyed several important Iranian radar systems.
Trump Speaks on Strait of Hormuz
Trump said the United States has control over the Strait of Hormuz, an important sea route used by many oil tankers.
He said the importance of the strait has declined because other routes and oil pipelines can be used if necessary.
Trump also said the United States could target an important Iranian nuclear facility. He repeated that Iran would not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons.
Trump Sends Team to Russia and Ukraine
Trump also spoke about the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.
He said his special envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner would travel to Russia and Ukraine with a proposal aimed at helping end the conflict.
Trump said he hoped the talks could lead to a solution and bring an end to the long-running war.
‘Putin Will Not Attack NATO’
Trump said he does not believe Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to attack any NATO member.
“I know him and I speak to him,” Trump said, adding that Putin does not want to attack NATO territory.
Meanwhile, fighting between Russia and Ukraine continues, with both sides targeting important sites and economic facilities.
The Russia-Ukraine war has continued for several years and has caused a large number of military and civilian deaths.
