Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti has urged the authorities to intervene over a poster advertising a “Tantra in Silence” meditation retreat in Gurez Valley.
In a post on X, Mufti shared the promotional poster and expressed concern over the proposed event. She tagged Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and the J&K Police, urging them to “intervene immediately and take appropriate action.” She also appealed to Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam to raise awareness about the issue.
According to the poster shared by Mufti, the retreat is scheduled to be held from September 24 to 27, 2026, and is described as a meditation retreat under the name “Rajneesh Tantra Temple.” The poster lists Gurez Valley, Srinagar as the location and advertises accommodation, food and retreat sessions at ₹11,995 per person.
The promotional material identifies Swami Dhyan Sumit as the facilitator and says the programme will include activities such as sound healing, meditation, “love & awareness,” conscious living and inner transformation.
Mufti also referred in her post to a similar “Tantra” retreat that she said was facilitated by Swami Dhyan Sumit and cancelled in Goa last year following controversy over its promotional material. That part of her statement is being presented as her claim; independent verification of the specific Goa episode was not established in the sources reviewed for this report.
“Gurez is no playground for experiments in the name of spirituality or tourism,” Mufti wrote, while calling for immediate official intervention.
The issue comes as Gurez continues to attract attention as a tourism destination. The proposed retreat, as shown in the poster, combines meditation and spiritual activities with a multi-day stay in the valley.
