The United Nations Security Council has strongly condemned the ongoing attacks by Yemen’s Houthi rebels against Saudi Arabia, including strikes targeting civilians and energy infrastructure.
In a joint statement issued on Friday, the Security Council members condemned what they described as continued Houthi attacks against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia “in the strongest terms.”
The statement said the attacks had targeted civilians and energy infrastructure and resulted in injuries to civilians, including women and children.
The council also stressed the importance of complying with international law, particularly the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), and upholding the rights and freedoms of navigation.
The Security Council called on the Houthis to immediately end military escalation and halt attacks targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure.
The statement was delivered by Jérôme Bonnafont, France’s permanent representative to the United Nations and president of the Security Council.
