Three Editions, 4,200 Copies Each — and a Journey Built on Trust
There is a particular challenge in building a media organisation from Srinagar.
It is a city with a rich journalistic tradition, but building and sustaining an independent media operation here is rarely straightforward. The financial pressures are real, the competition is intense and the habits of audiences are changing rapidly. For a small organisation, every edition requires persistence, investment and a willingness to keep going when the easier option would be to stop.
For ANN News Network, the journey has often felt like moving forward through difficult terrain.
We have not always moved as quickly as we would have liked. But we have continued to move.
And Aalimi Nation is the latest chapter in that journey.
A small beginning with a significant response
The magazine is now three editions old.
When we began, we understood the challenge. Print journalism is operating in a very different environment from the one that existed even a decade ago. Readers have access to news instantly, often through a phone screen, and the space for long-form journalism is under pressure.
Yet we chose to publish a magazine from Srinagar.
We asked readers to give us something increasingly valuable: their time and attention.
More than 4,200 copies of each edition have been distributed through the postal network, reaching readers in Delhi, Mumbai, Pune and other parts of Maharashtra, Chandigarh, Haryana and several other parts of the country.
Our subscriber base continues to grow with each edition.
By the standards of established national publications, these numbers may appear modest. For a young magazine building its readership from Srinagar, they represent something much more meaningful.
Each copy represents a decision by someone to read.
A student.
A professional.
An official.
A researcher.
Or simply someone who believes there is still value in sitting down with journalism that offers context rather than constant noise.
That is why these numbers matter to us.
The readers made the journey possible
Aalimi Nation has not reached this point because we had the resources of a large national publishing house.
It has reached this point because readers gave us an opportunity.
Copies have travelled far beyond Srinagar. They have reached homes, offices and institutions in cities and states we could not have imagined reaching when the project began.
That makes this achievement less about circulation and more about trust.
And that trust belongs to our readers.
From Srinagar to a global audience

The website gives us an opportunity to extend the magazine's journalism beyond the limitations of print and geography.
It will carry news, newsletters, analysis, opinion, interviews and international reporting, alongside coverage of subjects including politics, business, science, health, technology and society.
Our ambition is not to become a publication that is global merely in its subject matter.
It is to build a publication that approaches global events with the same seriousness with which it approaches events closer to home.
A newsroom does not have to be located in London, New York or Delhi to report intelligently on Washington, Tehran, Gaza, Europe or the wider world.
It can be based in Srinagar.
Our location is part of our identity, but it does not define the limits of our journalism.
Journalism from Kashmir does not have to be confined to Kashmir
That belief has been central to Aalimi Nation from the beginning.
We want to report on Kashmir without becoming inward-looking.
We want to cover the country without losing the regional perspective.
And we want to report on international affairs while remaining conscious of the questions that matter to our readers at home.
The challenge is to combine those perspectives without compromising accuracy or context.
That is the standard we are trying to build.
The next stage of Aalimi Nation will require more people.
We are looking for journalists, writers, researchers, analysts, photographers and media professionals who want to contribute to a publication that is still being built.

We will make mistakes.
When we do, we will correct them.
That may sound simple, but maintaining those standards is particularly important for a young publication operating with limited resources.
Our greatest asset is not our equipment, our offices or our circulation.
It is the confidence readers place in us.
That confidence has to be earned repeatedly.
The road ahead
ANN News Network has been built gradually, through years of work, investment and difficult decisions.
There have been setbacks and periods of uncertainty. There have been financial pressures and moments when continuing was difficult.
But the organisation has continued to evolve.
The progress may sometimes be slow.
But it is progress.
Aalimi Nation is three editions old.
The website is now live.
The readership is growing.
And the ambition is becoming larger.
Our goal is to build a publication with a global outlook and a strong journalistic foundation in Srinagar — one that can be read across India and, eventually, far beyond it.
We are still at the beginning of that journey.
